I will try test the kernel and let you know if this helps. But now that I'm using the intel driver 2.7.0 from this ppa on Jaunty: https://edge.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ tearing is no longer present in fullscreen mode (with or without compiz enabled). Only videos playing in windowed mode show tearing.
