looks like you have some network hardware related issues that block DNS SRV lookups. You can try the following command in a Terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal):
dig -t SRV _xmpp-client._tcp.gmail.com
If that fails your modem is likely to be broken.
In case SRV lookup fails, the connection is done according to the defaults specified in /etc/xdg/ubuntuone/syncdaemon.conf. AS you have already figured out this is not a 'critical' error.
