I just tried the 32 bit from live usb session and also there Arandr won't start. Starting it from the terminal results in the same message from the first post.
Since i have a nVidia card and use Nouveau because the nVidia driver just won't install properly, i started to believe it could be a issue with Nouveau maybe.
