A little break, a new big project

Written for Unit Desktop by mirko on 2017-04-22

Not long ago we proposed to continue the development of Unity. In the last few days we have studied the code and we came to a conclusion: "We recharge Unity from scratch."

Okay, we're not crazy and it will not be too demanding work, the new desktop will keep the underlying concept in Unity but for the first time it will be a real desktop environment and not a simple compiz plugin.

Unit Desktop will be lightweight, weighs a few MBs and will run on dated machines, will offer the look of Unity 7 to which we are used and the best software park, mostly in accordance with what is already present in Ubuntu.

Desktop Unit will be developed with Python & QT and will be supported on both Wayland and Xorg, following the KISS principle ("keep it simple, stupid") as the general guideline.
