Bug Description

This is NOT in the 386 version only the AMD-64 version

After changing driver to vesa since ....
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/28925

I get further but not in the right direction ....
The monitor powers off when running startx. I have no control, CTRL+ALT+F1 does not handle me any control.
I have tried writing "sudo reboot" (even thought the monitor still was turned off) but the system is complete frozen. I cannot provide any kind of logs since the system hangs .... but will be happy to help in any way I can.

I use an AMD Opteron 170.
I recall having no problem with 5.10 with another motherboard and cpu (3800+) but same gfx. Club 3d 800XL.
