PPA description
Modular packages for the CARTA image viewer, dependencies, and other related software.
Packages for desktop users
-------
To install the backend and frontend components of the stable release version of the CARTA viewer for use on the desktop, install the `carta` metapackage.
To install the latest development version instead, use the `carta-beta` metapackage. Only one of these versions can be installed at one time.
Packages for controller users

To install the backend component for use with the CARTA controller, please use the `carta-backend` package (for the release version) or the `carta-

Utilities
---------
`fits2idia` converts files from FITS to the IDIA HDF5 schema.
Notes
-----
We aim to support the last two LTS versions in each release of CARTA. CARTA 4.x packages are available for Focal and Jammy. CARTA 5.x packages are available for Jammy and Noble. We only build for the amd64 and arm64 architectures. Old packages for unsupported releases will be removed from this repository.
`casacore-data` is recommended by the backend packages, but installing it is optional. The packages in this PPA should be compatible both with the `casacore-data` package in the core Ubuntu repositories and with the package provided by the Kern PPA. You may also wish to manage the required data files without using a package. To avoid installing the `casacore-data` package, use the `--no-install-
Adding this PPA to your system
You can update your system with unsupported packages from this untrusted PPA by adding ppa:cartavis-team/carta to your system's Software Sources. (Read about installing)
