A few more VS warnings fixed.

There are still some remaining warnings:
VS:
   fileno vs. _fileno
   lots of stuff in test_str_util.cpp
   some of the old/crufty programs in samples/
gcc:
   lots of warnings about sprintf buffer sizes
   warnings about wxQsort() redeclaration (not our fault?)
