PPA description
Shairport Sync.
Shairport Sync is an AirPlay audio player -- it plays audio streamed from iTunes, iOS devices and third-party AirPlay sources such as ForkedDaapd and others. Audio played by a Shairport Sync-powered device stays synchronised with the source and hence with similar devices playing the same source. In this way, synchronised multi-room audio is possible without difficulty.

Be careful with pulse audio on desktop ubuntu systems. The builds in this ppa do not include the pulse audio backend, and so will not talk directly to pulseaudio. Nonetheless if pulse audio is running, you will often find it has installed a virtual ALSA device, such that shairport is outputting to ALSA, but the ALSA device is actually a pseudo device that redirects to pulseaudio. "pulseaudio --kill && sudo service shairport-sync restart" is your friend here if you want synchronised multi-room audio.
Adding this PPA to your system
You can update your system with unsupported packages from this untrusted PPA by adding ppa:dantheperson/shairplay-sync to your system's Software Sources. (Read about installing)
