PPA description
This archive contains server software that is unavailable in the Ubuntu repositories.
Darwin Streaming Server's build and install scripts are a bit of a mess, which explains why I haven't seen it in the apt repositories. In packaging it myself, I spent a lot of time trying to clean things up and fit Debian/Ubuntu policy. Directories are relatively LSB compliant. Man pages reflect the names of the executables actually installed (not those which would be installed if you had the commercial Quicktime Streaming Server). The unprivileged system account is cleanly added and removed along with the software. There are working init scripts for both the streaming server and the admin web server. The admin password can be configured using debconf. The sample media files, which account for the bulk of the distribution, live in an optional package. Enjoy!
(The darwinstreaming packages fail to build on amd64, but the i386 builds are fine. Some day I ought to update the packaging to avoid amd64.)
