Can't load a playlist

Bug #11040 reported by Trouilliez vincent

Bug Description

I put lots of MP3 files into the playlist dialog, then clicked on 'save playlist'.

But, when I later try to load the playlist, it doesn't work, Totem says that it
doesn't have the required codec to play the file. So basically it looks like it
doesn't recognize its own playlist and tries to read it like it were a media file !

I don't know, according to Synaptic, there is no update available for
Totem-xine. I think that there are only security fixes for Warty, sadly :o(

I will have to wait for Hoary to be released then, but that will be in 3 months
! :o(

Hi Seb,

Well I don't "use" Hoary, I am still on Warty for normal daily use, but yes, I
did install Hoary Array 4 the other day on an old hard drive, to have a quick
look at it. Yes, it appears that this bug is now fixed. I managed to create a
playlist and load it afterwards with no problem. It works fine now, both with
Tote-Xine and Totem-Gstreamer :o)
However the other big Totem bug I filed
(https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/show_bug.cgi?id=4508) is still not fixed, despite
being very annoying and probably very easy to fix. :o(

this bug is fixed, I'm closing it, thanks.

About #4508 why not just putting the window in the app list only, you don't need
to keep the dialog on screen. BTW you say that's a very easy bug to fix, patches
are welcome :)

Hiding a problem is not fixing it :o)

He he, yes, I wish I had the skills and time to fix all th ebugs I find, sadly I
am "just" a user ;o)
I said it "looked" easy, because it's not really a bug is it, it's just a slight
UI change. I mean there is obviously mechanisms in Totem that allow to control
the size of the window (x1, x2 etc) an deven re'size it automatically when you
play a video file, and you can even play strange visaul effects in it, when
playing audio only files. So I thought, hiding the windo altogether can't be
that hard, comapred to fixing "real" bugs, that require time identify/locate,
and lots of skills to fix.
But I fully understand that what looks like simple things to the user, are
sometimes actually much difficult to code than it looks. SO maybe my "bug" falls
in this category !?

This issue is rather: totem has ~150 bugs opens at the moment, the main devel is
working on some other modules too, and it's not payed to work on this. Even if
the bug is probably quite easy to fix that's probably not on the top of 150 bugs
open at the moment ...

Yes, fixing priorities is a major problem when there are zillions of
bugs...there is no magic solution, only compromises... :-/
