Bug Description

[SRU] This fix was released in openmotif 2.3.3-7ubuntu1 in Raring. While I don't believe this warrants an SRU on its own, the debdiffs attached to LP: #1187507 fix the problem for Precise and Quantal.

[IMPACT]
After purging the package motif-clients, unowned files are left in /etc/X11/mwm.

[Test Case]
Install then purge motif-clients, verify that /etc/X11/mwm is empty.
$ sudo apt-get install motif-clients
$ sudo apt-get purge motif-clients
$ ls -l /etc/X11/mwm/
total 0

On a system where the bug is present, the files menudefs.hook and system.mwmrc will be listed.

[Regression Potential]
Minimal: the fix only affects packaging.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the piuparts log file attached to Debian bug #656169:

Purging configuration files for motif-clients ...
  dpkg: warning: while removing motif-clients, directory '/etc/X11/mwm' not empty so not removed.

0m18.5s ERROR: FAIL: Package purging left files on system:
  /etc/X11 owned by: motif-clients, x11-common
  /etc/X11/mwm owned by: motif-clients
  /etc/X11/mwm/menudefs.hook not owned
  /etc/X11/mwm/system.mwmrc not owned

Triaged: It's a backport of an existing understood fix

Thanks for your bug report, I don't see anything to sponsor on this bug (no attachment, no vcs linked, no debdiff), unsubscribing sponsors ... subscribe them back if you have an actual change to be sponsored.

Setting the quantal part of the bug to wontfix, quantal is neither a LTS nor the current stable, the SRU team has limited resourced and those are focussed on the most used series

status: New → Won't Fix
importance: Undecided → Low

Hello Graham, or anyone else affected,

Accepted openmotif into quantal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openmotif/2.3.3-5ubuntu2.12.10.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.
