Menu in Gnome not editable

Bug Description

It's impossible to edit the menu in Hoary's GNOME (or, if it is possible, the
option is very well hidden).

I'd like to see a menu editor/editing option before the release, as people have
been nagging me about the (hard to find!) menu editing of Warty for a long time.

you can use applications:/// in nautilus for warty. Hoary/GNOME 2.10 will
probably not have a graphical editor. You can install menu/menu-xdg to have a
debian submenu with all the suff installed.

Is there any chance that Hoary+1/Gnome 2.12 will have a graphical menu editor again?

It's very annoying not to be able to edit the default menus, when it was
possible in the past.

It is possible to change the menu by creating a new .desktop file in

the above link will give you an idea of how to change the menus.
basically you have to add a .desktop file for each item for the standardization
is not gui.

Hope this helps you.

is there literally no change of a simple menu editor, even if it was only
system-wide? I am happy as it is but I do think it looks a bit unprofessional
and I'm slightly concerned that ubuntu will suffer because of this bug.

I think that everybody agree than having a menu editor would be nice, patches
are welcome ...

in the meantime I will get a wiki page going, based on the link posted helpfully
above by tony stegall. It'll be at GnomeMenuEditingHowTo

Denu (http://denu.sourceforge.net/) supports editing Gnome 2.10 menu. Maybe we
should include it for Hoary. It is originally built for Gentoo, so some
tweakings might be necessary.

There is also a program posted on the forums which might be considered for
hoary. If so, the quicker it gets in the better for bug testing purposes.
