Bug Description

Marc Tardiff is setting up a page listing certified hardware. We need to make sure the "Get Ubuntu" page is modified to show this fourth option as a way to get Ubuntu.

This is definitely needed to encourage purchasing Ubuntu preinstalled on machines as well as helping people who are looking for this anyways.

System76 and Dell should be shows at the top
ZaReason and RCubed could also be listed

Then underneath should be a list of local stores, or at least a link to a wiki list

Is this the equivalent of the "official list" http://webapps.ubuntu.com/partners/system/ ?

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut should be a small usability issue, in the default Ubuntu install, that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't be addressed as part of this project.

- This is not a bug in the OS , but rather marketing related.
For further information about papercuts criteria, please read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut.

Don't worry though, this bug has been marked as "Invalid" only in the papercuts project.

Subscribed Daniel Dolinov, IMHO this is interesting for Canonical Marketing.

My two cents, I would like to have it also in LoCo web sites. We should set up a way to translate it and a notify system to know when somethings changes.

Lack of an "Ubuntu certified hardware list" is nearly analogous to releasing untested product. Testing/QA is not a marketing function.

Hi

This is something we would love to do. The problem is a stable data source of machines. We will up-level the certified hardware as we have a reliable, updated and comprehensive hardware list. Will be in new rev (unless de-scoped :-) for the next revision of the site.

@Gerry,
Thanks for the good news. Any estimates on when the site revisions will
go live?

I've been working on this as part of planning with the Ubuntu Advertising team. So far in the UK I have one supplier of Ubuntu pre-loaded desktops http://www.elpatech.co.uk and am working on two 'barebones' manufacturers to see if I can work with them to carry out full testing on selected prebuilt specs. My suggestion to them is for us to provide a wiki page which they can maintain rather than us. I still await their response but will chase. I would like to see Canonical push for a similar initiative in other parts of the world. Barry.

This is excellent. I want to add a couple of UK suppliers. Do they
have to be Canonical Partners, or can I just add them as they are. Both
supply pre-loaded Ubuntu computers with no Windows.

Further suggestion: I've written to all the UK barebones computer suppliers asking if they can maintain a list of their builds that are fully tested with Ubuntu. I've offered to travel to their factories and help with tests if needed. I've told them they can have their machines listed on: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/barebones and they can take responsibility for updating. (Don't look at the wiki page - it doesn't exist yet). If you like this suggestion, lets repeat it in other countries. Again, if there is uptake of this, the wiki needs to be referenced from the website along with https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuPre-installed
