Setting LANG=en_US.UTF-8 and LANGUAGE=en_US:en helps (normally on the system this is LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 and LANGUAGE=de_DE:de:en ) helps and leads to displaying the error message with dependencyproblems. So it seems to be regarded to the german translation.

I've recreated using by adding and installing packages from the xorg-edger's PPA. The error message included in the details dialog box raised by DistUpgradeCache.py included the following information:

"E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages."

I don't think is extra bit of information provides any value to Ubuntu users trying to debug the situation and given that a bug report is not automatically created with this information, I think it should just be removed.

Changed in ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu):
assignee: nobody → Brian Murray (brian-murray)
status: New → In Progress
importance: Undecided → Medium
