tool.

Steps:
1. Install a precise desktop
2. Update to have the latest precise packages (sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade)
3. Reboot
4. Run do-release-upgrade -d and the above error message will appear

AFAIK it should not update directly to trusty, but in multiple steps through quantal -> raring -> trusty.
Unfortunately the tool doesn't know that, though in earlier releases it worked fine.

Also keep in mind, trusty is not LTS.

This must be fixed in ubuntu-release-upgrader in Trusty by adding a file DistUpgrade.cfg.precise (copy Distupgrade.cfg) and, in the section 'Sources', set the value of the parameter 'From' to 'precise' and 'To' to 'Trusty'

affects: update-manager (Ubuntu) → ubuntu-release-upgrader (Ubuntu)

status: Triaged → In Progress
