Sorry, the input file is either wrong or not supported by bcm43xx-fwcutter.
This file has an unknown MD5sum a58843b5ee79d015adf8c54178186487.
dpkg: error processing bcm43xx-fwcutter (--configure):

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

This was working a short time ago, and looks like it may be a change in the contents returned by Google, possibly needing an update to bcm43xx-fwcutter. Either that, or the current version of bcm43xx-fwcutter has been broken. I know this worked when I installed tribe 2, but doesn't work with tribe 3 on the same notebook.

There isn't any new version as you can see at http://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=4547

It's a problem from upstream (author).

I also am experiencing the same result.
Could it be because the page is unavailable??
Click on the link http://boredklink.googlepages.com/wl_apsta.o
Notice it currently says: "The bandwith or page view limit for this site has been exceeded"

Yes, it's because the file is unavailable.

I made a copy at this address :
you just have to copy&paste http://morgan.germain.googlepages.com/wl_apsta.o
 instead of http://boredklink.googlepages.com/wl_apsta.o

when apt-get installing bcm43xx-fwcutter

Morgan,

Actually I picked the wrong one - I have a Broadcomm
4400 series, and it's driving me crazy...

Morgan,

I understand that the package is trying to download from a dead link, but what do you mean "you just have to copy & paste?" Copy and paste where? What are the exact steps to getting this configured?

That's not a bug in the upstream bcm43xx-fwcutter. The bug is in the Debian post-install scripts

When I told "you just have to copy & paste", I was speaking about the restricted manager. When you use restricted manager to enable your broadcom chipset, the manager asks if you want to download firmware from an URL or from a file.

I proposed another URL but If you upgrade your Gutsy and try it again, you will notice that the URL has changed and is now http://xeve.de/down/wl_apsta.o

and the download works...

...but installation of the firmware doesn't work. The 404 problem is now resolved but something else happens.

I'm still getting the same bug with Feisty. I was able to install the package, but Synaptic is unhappy. Its still reporting the file as not found.

My patch below should fix all the issues above, including the Gutsy firmware issues, but please let me know if it doesn't work for you. Comments welcome. If any bugs, we can try something else, but this works for me :-)

Oddly enough, my wireless came up fine, so this seemed like a "don't care" error message!?

(I was doing a distro upgrade - which did fire out warnings, but damn, it worked great! Ubuntu Rocks!)
