Bug Description

At the moment I have got "Russian" and "English (UK)" installed on my computer. I installed them through "System Settings > Language Support". But now I want to add Korean and that is where the problem has come up.

So I go into the "Language Support" settings and click "Install / Remove Languages...", I then select "Korean" from the list and click "Apply Changes". After the installation has finished I go into the Text Entry settings: Text_Entry_GUI.bmp

And click the little "+" sign. Then I find and add "Korean" from the list: Choose_an_input_source_GUI.bmp

But then when I select "Korean" as the language I want to type as, it still stays at English. And not matter what I do, I cannot seem to get any other languages working.

I am running Ubuntu 14.10.

This 14.10 issue was brought up at Ask Ubuntu:

Downgrading ibus-hangul to the 14.04 version seems to be a workaround, but the 15.04 version does not work either.

@Aron: Do you have an idea what the problem is? I tested on Lubuntu too, and the latest versions of ibus-hangul don't work there either, so unity-control-center and the ibus integration seems not to be the problem.

Not a bug, please select Hangul as the backend to be able to input Korean characters.

@Aron: The bug description may not be crystal clear, neither in this bug report nor the upstream ditto, but I for one can reproduce the problem. ibus-hangul simply does not work in Utopic and Vivid. Using 14.10 I can make it work by downgading to ibus-hangul 1.4.2-3 (the trusty version).

This is invalid, users need to enable hangul mode by pressing Shift+Space, or click on the indicator menu. There is a preference can make it "Start in hangul mode", would that be welcomed? It seems ibus-hangul assumes it will manage the input environment for the user so people can switch among keyboard and hangul mode without bothering the switch of the engine. Korean is a kind of phonetic script so it's purely converting the English alphabet to Hangul alphabet/characters. What do you think?

With that explanation i take back all I wrote above and agree. 호 로 라 ;)

Obviously I wasn't aware of that toggle possibility. Possibly there was a silent change in behavior between 14.04 and 14.10, and even if it may have caused confusion, it's not a bug.

Thanks!
