Bug Description

When I UNCHECK the "Enable Wireless" option in Network Manager Applet,
the wireless radio is turned off (using madwifi), and I save about 2 Watts of
power in my laptop.

But when I am already connecting via wireless and I plug in the ethernet
cable, Network Manager automatically switches to the wired network,
but it does NOT turn the wireless radio off, wasting power.

Shouldn't it cut the wireless radio power the same way it does when
I uncheck "Enable Wireless"?

Macbook Core2Duo with Atheros Wireless.
Using latest madwifi-ng CVS.

Hi,

can you please attach a full /var/log/syslog and please tell me the time when you switched to wired (e.g. radio still on) and when you disable wireless completely (radio off).

Thanks,

I believe that this is more of an enhancement request than a bug. Indeed, most laptop users connect to the Internet via the ethernet port XOR via wireless. If the wired connection is active, there is really no reason to have the wireless radio turned on and eating up power.

Thank you for your suggestion. However, the changes you are requesting aren't really a bug and require more discussion, which should be done on an appropriate mailing list or forum. http://www.ubuntu.com/support/community/mailinglists might be a good start for determining which mailing list to use.

NM wont turn off radio when the user connects to wired. user has to disable wireless in the NM applet menu to achieve that.
