Video playback has messed up colour scheme (green lines appearing over the video) for multiple video players using .avi files

I have the same problem with .mkv files as well.

I've attached my xorg.conf file.

According to Maha Basheikh's xorg.conf this problem happens with the xv plugin provided by the via driver.

For Hardy, with via driver. On my standard install with Totem some videos play OK, some have bad colour with various lines and artifacts, and some are completely garbled.

Then I went and installed Xine, now it seems that both Xine and Totem can play the same movies OK. (I didn't keep careful track of all the steps in between, so YMMV)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? (ISOs are available from cdimage.ubuntu.com)

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

It is no longer an issue. I have fixed the problem.

Great, good to hear it's no longer an issue.

I've been searching around but can't find an exact match. Maybe nobody actually figured what was happening.
I have video play back problems... started getting worse on the latest Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid) updates.
The problem looks like the color bits of the video are displaced, making a green row on the left and all the red colors displaced to the right. Only happens with certain videos, mostly xvid.
I'm using an nVidia GeForce 8600GT with the Ubuntu proprietary driver 177.

The XINE tip didnt help me, but gave me the idea to try other video outputs.... X11 works fine... OpenGL works too. Xv is the buggy one.
Never had this problem on my notebook with ATI video drivers.
