Bug Description

EDIT: Boot in 35 five minutes now! :)

Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10 (fresh instal)
Laptop model: Acer Aspire 5600

Since my update to Gutsy, the boot is very long. I check the dmesg and i found an error in gspca who can't correctly mount the webcam of my maptop. Here i paste some example information from it :

infradmin, thank you for updating the information on this bug. I am confused, though. It sounds like you still have a problem, but you put "RESOLVED" in the bug title, which means there is no problem anymore.
I have removed "RESOLVED" from the title because that is not the proper way to close a bug, and also because I do not believe you mean for it to be closed. If I am mistaken, and you have no problem anymore, please change the Status of the bug to "Invalid". Thank you!

I have a similar problem with the integrated webcam on my laptop, it has the same chipset (it's a Vimicro Vc-0321), I dunno if boot slows down beacause of the webcam,'cause I can't remove it, but it's not particularly slow. The problem is the webcam isn't properly configured, I have the same dmesg output, but after the boot the webcam do not work. It is detected, but only a black screen appears on applications trying to use it, like cheese, amsn, ekiga, skype.. Should I open a new thread for this? I attach my files here..

I have discovered a "dirty fix" conserning this bug. It appears to be connected to a physical connectivity problem with the rotating Acer OrbiCam attached to my Acer Aspire 5684WLMi.

During Linux loading, when the computer repeats "... gspca_core.c: Failed to configure camera" without stopping, I press the camera gently from pointing at me to pointing upwards, maybe 15 degrees. When I reach this spot, gspca stops complaining, and Linux loading continues, and I can stop pressing the camera (and the camera works).

I don't know if this dirty fix only applies to my (maybe badly connected) camera, but it can be worth a try. I have to do this (almost) every time I boot up my Ubuntu laptop (sometimes it loads without problems, and maybe several times in a row if I don't touch the camera in between). And, off course, I take no responsibility if you damage your camera/laptop while trying this dirty fix, you do this at your own risk.

If you don't need the webcam and don't want to wait for a bugfix, you can simply blacklist gspca. If you are using the webcam you can try to use this dirty fix.

I have included the dmesg log before and after I do the "dirty fix". As you can see, before my "fix" the USB device appears to disconnect before gspca has loaded the driver.
