Bug Description

Accessories is not a rational place to find Manage Printer Jobs. One expects it to be in Settings or System.

I take it from the brainstorm idea [1] that this regards Xubuntu - is that correct? If so, you mean "Manage Print Jobs" instead of "Manage Printer Settings". And since print jobs aren't settings, they shouldn't be in the settings menu. Since they do not concern administrative tasks that require the root password, it also shouldn't be in the System menu. Accessories is the correct location in my opinion.

I've marked it as Incomplete instead of Invalid because I don't know whether this really concerns Xubuntu.

You might want to report a bug upstream [2] on system-config-printer to be able to launch the "Default Printer" application from "Manage Print Jobs".

Vincent: to answer your questions, this regards Xubuntu and "Manage Print Jobs" (corrected in description).

I disagree that it belongs in Accessories: it's ad administrative task, and belongs in System. (Just because you don't need root password to manage your own jobs doesn't mean it's not System relevant: note that System Monitor is also in System, but is not administrative, nor does it require root.)

In Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS "Manage Print Jobs" is also under Applications > Accessories.
We should not have a menu entry for this at all since a tray icon appears after starting a print job that allows to open the "Manage Print Jobs" window which is the most intuitive way to manage print jobs.

Can we hide the "Manage Print Jobs" menu entry by default in Ubuntu?

On natty there is a "View Print Queue" menu entry in System > Administration > Printing to show all print jobs of a printer (bug #144113), so "Manage Print Jobs" under "Accessories" menu should be hidden by default.

This bug was fixed in the package system-config-printer - 1.2.6+20110127-0ubuntu4

---------------
system-config-printer (1.2.6+20110127-0ubuntu4) natty; urgency=low

  * debian/patches/10_menu_entries.patch: updated to hide "Manage Print Jobs"
from "Accessories" menu. There is a "View Print Queue" menu entry in
System > Administration > Printing to show all print jobs of a printer and
the users print jobs can be viewed by clicking the tray icon that appears
    after printing something (LP: #204732).
