Screen resolution set incorrectly when using KVM

Bug Description

1) I'm using 8.04.
2) n/a, since I don't know which package caused the issue.
3) I expected my system to not change settings when not asked to do so.
4) Instead, my screen resolution was set differently and could not be reset.

Upon booting this morning, I found my screen resolution suddenly set to 1152*768 (I have always had it set to 1280*1024).
First thing of course was to check the Screen Resolution tool, which confirmed this, and showed me that the monitor was not recognized and the normal 1024*768 and 1280*1024 resolutions were not available at all.

After connecting my monitor to my system directly instead of through the KVM, the monitor was correctly detected and the proper settings became available.

In this case, the KVM is probably partly to blame. However, until today, Ubuntu has run without any such problems. Therefore, something must have changed in yesterday's updates which caused/triggered this issue. For that reason I chose to file this report.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for responding, Dereck.

I'm afraid the Xorg log has since been overwritten (apparently it only logs 2 sessions/days?), so I won't be able to post the original.

I could run without xorg.conf and post its results, but do you want me to do so in the working setup (no KVM) or while replicating the problem (using the KVM)? Presumably the latter, but I'd rather be sure.

I'm posting the xorg.conf I currently have. It seems to have been generated after disconnecting the KVM though, as the correct settings appear to be present in it.

I'll be awaiting further questions and/or directions.

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
