I was editing a php file from my webserver over sftp(ssh) and when I was going to save the file, Gedit died.

thank you for your bug report, the issue is similar to http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=546300 and is a gvfs bug which is fixed in the upstream svn
