the bug has been confirmed, what would be useful is to sent it on bugzilla.gnome.org now and not to add comments there

A temporary workaround is to go manually to ~/.config/autostart/ , copy any of the .desktop file to a new file, and edit it, to fit your needs. Example, to launch pidgin (put this content into ~/.config/autostart/pidgin.desktop) :

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Name=Pidgin
Name[fr_FR]=Pidgin
Comment[fr_FR]=Lance Pidgin “Messagerie Instantanée”
Comment=Lance Pidgin “Messagerie Instantanée”
Exec=/usr/bin/pidgin
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=true

This bug will be fixed once gnome-session version 2.23.92 is released in Intrepid, so there is no need for everyone to say its an issue, too. ;-) Just be patient, thanks.

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-session - 2.23.92-0ubuntu1

---------------
gnome-session (2.23.92-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
    - Make all desktop files translatable
    - Avoid gnome-wm launching itself in loop
    - Remove required components from the default session
    - Rename /desktop/gnome/session/required_components key
    - Do not use dash but underscore to separate words in gconf keys
  * debian/gnome-session.gconf-defaults:
    - set gnome-wm as default wm there
  * debian/patches/01_fix_session_xsmp.patch:
    - the change is not required
  * debian/patches/81_gnome_wm_install.patch:
    - install gnome-wm again
  * debian/patches/98_autotools.patch:
    - required autotools update

gnome-session (2.23.91-0ubuntu1) intrepid; urgency=low

  * New upstream version:
    - Fixed #548710, metacity is not respawned when dies
    - Fixed #548909, compilation fix
    - Fixed #548980, make non-fatal errors are treated as such
    - Fixed #548982, do not set a11y gtk modules if at registry could not be
      started
    - Honor the list of required apps in the list key instead of loading all
      component keys in the dir
    - Look in app dirs for required components
    - Do not use and install gnome-wm by default
    - Add command line option to override the gconf key used to look up
      the default session
    - Fix add/edit dialog of the capplet (lp: #260910)
    - Fix leaks
    - Code cleanups
    - Fixed #546863, make sure there is a session bus running
    - Fixed #550211, add --logout, --force-logout, --logout-dialog and
    --shutdown-dialog arguments to gnome-session-save, and deprecate --kill
    - Fixed #542880, set GNOME_DESKTOP_SESSION_ID environment variable for
      compatibility reasons
    - Fixed #547272, make gnome-keyring-daemon work correctly again
      in the session
