Bug Description
Binary package hint: xserver-xorg
xorg.conf is not what it used to be. With automatic detection of hardware, settings in xorg.conf may be ignored, causing problems. For instance this is a problem I have just experienced of this kind: http://
Beyond that, it is not at all obvious what things like "configured video device" mean. I spent a good deal of time trying to find the file in which they were configured, which of course didn't exist.
To remedy this, I suggest that the comments at the top of xorg.conf should explain very briefly the differences between how X used to get configured and how it gets configured now, the role of xorg.conf in that, and where to get further guidance about how to edit the file.

Good point, I've added a note. Feel free to suggest alternate verbiage.
