FYI, preliminary test packages can be found in my PPA. Please give
feedback on them. Please also point to bugs in launchpad that are fixed
by the new release, so that I can include them in the package changelog
file!

https://launchpad.net/~siretart/+archive for now

I will move that to https://launchpad.net/~siretart/+archive after I got
some feedback after I've gotten some feedback and I have the impression
that this should go to intrepid.

I did some basic testing with 0.9.3 from your ppa, installing it, running it, viewing a few different video files and that all worked fine.

ps. could you provide a ppa with only vlc? With all those other programs in there as well and with vlc itself consisting of several different packages it is hard to install this way.

Reinhard, the PPA packages work fine on my Intrepid test machine too; no regressions from the 0.9.2 release that I can find.

I was told by ~motu-release that a follow-up feature freeze exception is not necessary for this release, too.

Because vlc is now added as both a dvd movie and audio cd player choice for default player a few comments on the default launch command.

Using %U will cause many commercial dvds to fail when vlc is called from dvd insertion. In these cases they have to run from vlc's file -> open disc menu to open. Using %m resolves this

Right click on dvd icon -> open with vlc also fails with %U. Using %m resolved in 0.9.2, fails also in 0.9.3

Opening a VIDEO_TS folder on the hdd with right click -> open with vlc will result in no navigation, ie. stuck on the menu if there is one, with %U. This also is resolved by using %m.

Both launch commands fail when a VIDEO_TS folder is accessed from vlc ->file -> open directory. (due to vlc jumping past VIDEO_TS.IFO

As far a audio cd's
Using vlc as default cd player with %U when an audio cd is inserted there is no playback. Using %m will allow playback upon cd insertion with a issue. All cd's with less than 10 tracks will playback perfectly, all with 10 or more will start at track 10. (playlist will be ordered 10 thru end, 1 thru 9.

Some of these issues with %U existed in 8.04 also and using %m solved them as here in 8.10.(with all vlc versions
I'm wondering why the adherence to a broken launch command (I see no downside to %m

side note: creating an alternate .desktop with it's own custom Exec= allows perfect audio cd playback. (in regards to autoplay
