update-motd --disable can leave very stale information in the MOTD

Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-motd

The --disable and --enable parameters were recently added to update-motd to facilitate easy enabling and disabling of the update-motd functionality.

Upon disabling, however, the MOTD will contain the data of the last update-motd run. This data will become very stale, and thus should be pruned upon disabling.

Please merge this into Intrepid (changing the changelog entry from UNRELEASED to intrepid).

This bug was fixed in the package update-motd - 1.8

update-motd (1.8) intrepid; urgency=low

  * update-motd: on disable, regenerate a motd that does not have the possibly
    stale update-motd data in it; on enable, run update-motd immediately
    (LP: #276539)
  * update-motd.1: update the manpage accordingly
