Hi.

I am wondering if fglrx was to supposed to work with today 2.6.27-3-rt kernel?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it without more information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-related bug reports is available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies Thanks in advance!

Here we go.

Linux think1 2.6.27-3-rt #1 PREEMPT RT Mon Oct 20 05:01:05 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

Attached both logs.

Background:
I upgraded from 2.6.27-7 incl. working fglrx to above kernel. The dpkg -i message during the automatic upgrade said something smilar to "do a dmks build on 2.6.27-3-rt first"

Hi there.

I uninstalled the 2.6.27-7-generic, after I put 2.6.27-3-rt on. Now I reinstalled it again. The fglrx driver still works on this kernel.

It really could be a problem with two fglrx's on the system.
I need a specifically compiled driver per kernel, right?
In the past I had similar problems with dkms when trying to build the fglrx-driver for a customized kernel.

The fglrx driver don't build (so don't work) with rt kernel in Intrepid. It is a regression from Hardy.

Patch is very simple: a couple of one-line changes. It is well tested because it is the same patch already present in Hardy.

Moreover it is encapsulated into a ifdef statements to apply only on rt kernel (CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT) so it don't affect other kernel flavours at all.

Please see attached debdiff file.

@soundcheck,

Could you try to install fglrx-kernel-source package from my PPA thus reboot your system?
Please test it with -generic and with -rt kernel.

Thanks!

I'll do so - but
How do I install the package from your "PPA"?

And add these PPA:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/abogani/ubuntu intrepid main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/abogani/ubuntu intrepid main

After reloading please install fglrx-kernel-source and reboot!

Thanks!

Alessio.

It works. I installed the package on the 2.6.27-7-general kernel.

While booting up the rt-kernel fglrx autoinstall ran without any problems.

From my perspective this TT can be closed now. (Hmmh - better leave it open. Until we get the final update via the repositories)

I take your PPA out again. Perhaps you'd tell us when you'll release the patch.

THX a lot.

Alessio,

This should be driven as an SRU. Can you adjust that patch so that it is
applied during the DKMS step instead of on the general package? It's more
maintainable in that fashion and will not need to be adjusted with new
versions.

fglrx-installer (2:8.552-0ubuntu1) jaunty; urgency=low

  * New upstream release.
  * debian/control:
    - Don't list the graphics cards supported, this is a moving target
      that is difficult to keep up with. (LP: #292436)
  * Move replacements for kernel source into debian/dkms
  * Add patch for RT support to debian/dkms (LP: #286961)
  * debian/dkms.conf.in:
    - Use RT patch.
