Bug Description
Gutsy’s xft introduced the FreeType LCD filtering patch to Xft. This patch was just dropped with the sync of xft 2.1.13-2 into Jaunty from Debian experimental. I hope that this patch’s removal is temporary; but if not, consider this my request to reconsider.
To explain my use case for this patch, the ad-hoc interpixel LCD filter that is used by the unpatched Xft causes severe color fringing when used with Slight hinting (to my eye, accurate color is more important than high contrast, especially on a high resolution display…but I digress). Therefore, I immediately noticed when the patch disappeared. With the patch, the LCD filter is settable via fontconfig and X resources, so that font rendering can be adjusted to display characteristics and personal preferences.
Here is a debdiff that re-adds the changes from the last Ubuntu release, including the two patches 002_embeddedbit map_property. patch and libXft- 2.1.10- lcd-filter- 3.patch. The merge had no conflicts, and I have successfully tested it with various Xft applications. The new package will also be available in my PPA shortly <https:/ /launchpad. net/~anders- kaseorg/ +archive>.
