Bug Description

Binary package hint: transmission

1.34-0ubuntu2.1 on Ubuntu/8.10/intrepid

When I right-click on a torrent and select "Delete Files and Remove" all FILES are deleted but FOLDERS remain. I expect folders to be deleted as well...

Thank you for your bug report. I can't confirm this though. For me, transmission deletes all files and folders, leaving only the download folder intact (as expected). Could you provide an example torrent file that this happens with?

Hmm, happens with every torrent for me. Here is a random one just to check:

At first I thought it might have something to do with incomplete torrents but the same thing happens for complete ones as well.

The drive I use for transmission downloads is boot-mounted via fstab... could this bug have something to do with the mounting options maybe? I'm going to check behaviour if I do a manual mount after start up and report if that makes a difference.

...and nope. That did not make a difference.

What type of filesystem are you downloading your torrents to? Is it NTFS or VFAT?

NTFS

Thanks. Would you mind trying with a non NTFS partition to see if that works as expected?

Hi again. Sorry for the delay.

I reformatted another drive with ext3 and now everything deletes like it is supposed to. I'm going to try to reformat it to ntfs now to see what happens. And I could also try some other types if that would help?

I was using gparted and did not realise that it does not do ntfs partitions so I tried fat32 instead in which folders were deleted properly. Switching back to my ntfs drive (from before, i was testing filesystem types on a separate drive) I still have this problem.

Can someone using transmission with an ntfs partitioned drive please comment on this?

Thanks romulaz. I don't actually have a NTFS partition to try this out on, but I suspect it is something to do with the way transmission handles volumes that don't support trash.

charles - what do you think?

Yes, I can see how this is possible.

This is fixed in trunk now upstream as a side effect of the changes for upstream ticket <http://trac.transmissionbt.com/ticket/1029>, which is here in Launchpad as Bug #268716

Still for unfinished and also finished downloads when removed and delted folder remains but files are moved to trash.
Also for one torrent after deleting and removing that folder keeped comming back even. How could it come back if its removed? Got that folder-coming-back away putting the same torrent to dl again and removing 2nd time.

When this is fixed also good would be that files are beeing deleted then just put in trash.
I always have to go to trash to remove it or left click trash and empty. Thats time consuming.
