Right-click on desktop causes Xfce to stop managing desktop when icons are disabled

Thanks for reporting this bug. Unfortunately, there is not enough information for the developers to resolve this. Please answer the following questions:

What version of Xubuntu is this? You can find that using 'lsb_release -rd' in a terminal.
What version of xfdesktop4? You can find that using 'apt-cache policy xfdesktop4' in a terminal.

By selecting Desktop Icons - None, you are telling Xfce you want a desktop with out icons. Do you have a color set under the Appearance tab?

Yes, I want a desktop without icons, but I want to use Xfce to set the wallpaper. The color is set to the default #3B5B88 .

I am not able to reproduce this in Xubuntu 8.04. My background stays the same color it started at. The menu does appear. Do you have compiz or compositor enabled? Is this a Xubuntu only installation?

I am using Compiz (version 1:0.7.4-0ubuntu7) as the window manager.

It is not Xubuntu, but rather Ubuntu with the xfce4 (4.4.2) package installed.

I found a temporary workaround: checking "Show desktop menu on right click" under the Behavior tab.

However, if left unchecked, the wallpaper will disappear when I right click on the desktop.

I was able to reproduce all except the dark background change. The confirmation is filed as bug 312503 , awaiting an amd64 backtrace from the apport team. It will then be marked a duplicate of this bug, and the report files made public.

This bug was fixed in the package xfdesktop4 - 4.5.99.1-0ubuntu1
