Bug Description
I'm not sure where exactly this bug exists, but I know that it was introduced sometime after Feb 16th. Basically, my networking suddenly stopped working. For reference, I'm using a Linksys WLAN504G PCI wireless card. The card is now unable to connect to my router. Note that I *can* connect to the internet when I reinstall Ubuntu -- it is able to download updates, and the lights on the PCI card flash appropriately -- but once I'm actually running Ubuntu, all functionality ceases.
I can see the following messages in my messages.log file:
ath0: ath_chan_set: unable to reset channel 2 (2417 Mhz)
ath0: ath_chan_set: unable to reset channel 4 (2427 Mhz)
Et cetera...
In my syslog, I can see:
dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 13
dhclient: DHCPDISCOVER on ath0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 5
dhclient: No DHCPOFFERS received
dhclient: No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.
dhclient: receive_packet failed on ath0: Network is down.
And so forth. This seems to be the case whether or not I'm using DHCP or supplying a static IP address.
If I try "sudo /etc/init.
If I try "sudo ifconfig ath0 down" and "sudo ifconfig ath0 up", then sometimes the syslog just records more of the same, and sometimes the computer freezes instantly, with no messages that I can find left in any of the logs.
I have a similar problem with an atheros chipset card too, a netgear WG511T. It just is not recognized by network-manager. If I plug it, it doe not appear in the devices. Besides, network-manager does not automatically connect to wired networks, so I suspect in my case it might be the culprit.
Is there _any_ way to reset all network confs in the computer?
