Bug Description
Binary package hint: screen-profiles
I am thrilled with the work Dustin Kirkland has done to provide useful screen profiles. One of the features is that the hardstatus line on the bottom will show the number of available package updates in white text against a red background.
After manually installing all available updates via aptitude full-upgrade, that status does not change until apt-check is called again. From perusing the updates-available script in /usr/share/
Could a hook be added to dpkg or a postinstall preference configured for apt that would run updates-available / apt-check and clear the status contemporaneously with the update?

Hi,
Thanks for the kind words!
I believe that this bug is a duplicate of Bug #319438, where I've requested that 'apt-get upgrade' be hooked to update /var/run/ updates- available upon completion.
I'm not going to mark this bug a 'duplicate' quite yet, as I suspect I might need a one-liner added to screen-profiles to respect a more recently touched /var/run/ updates- available.
Let me check with mvo and see how if he's released a fix for that bug yet.
Cheers,
:-Dustin
