Bug Description

On 26 Mar 2009, using the update manager (in Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope Alpha 6) at about 6pm mountain time, I allowed some small updates. Then, I pressed the check button. It went on for a while downloading and when it finished it gave me the following error (it said to report it; so that's why I am):

E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

You probably have some other package manager running - did you check for that? Does this recur if you try again?

I didn't have another package manager open. The problem didn't recur. I'm on the beta now, though. I think it was particular to those updates—so I don't envision it recurring again any time soon. It didn't happen in the beta version.

Thank you for your update. I am, then closing this as NOTABUG. If it happens again you can reopen the bug report: click on the current status, under the Status column, and change the Status back to "New". Thanks again!

Changed in update-manager (Ubuntu):
status: New → Invalid
