Bug Description

Binary package hint: ubuntu-restricted-extras

The current release of ubuntu-restricted-extras for Ubuntu/Jaunty/amd64 should link the recently released versions of sun-java6-plugin for amd64 instead of the Iced-Tea6-plugin.

Also ubuntu-resticted-extras should be linking to the recently released version of 64bit version of flash instead of the 32bit version with ndiswrapper.

Until recently using a 64bit version of Linux was a pain with Java and flash, please lets get this in the release.

link to java with 64bit plugin http://download.java.net/jdk6/index.html
link to flash 64bit plugin http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10.html

I have been running both of these plugins and have been very impressed, especially with the flash one.

Thank you

Note that currently, the 64-bit Adobe Flash Player 10 for Linux is a prerelease / alpha version, even though many people report that it works very well.

(@Mike: You mean nspluginwrapper, not ndiswrapper).

The problem with ubuntu-restricted-extras is that at this moment it depends on sun-java6-jre as well as icedtea6-plugin for amd64, which means that you get two Java runtime environments installed (Sun Java 6 and OpenJDK Java 6) if you install ubuntu-restricted-extras on amd64. The dependency on icedtea6-plugin (and OpenJDK Java) should be removed, since the current version of Sun Java 6 now includes a 64-bit Java plug-in.

Attached is a debdiff that prefers sun-java6-jre over icedtea6-plugin because some people might want the icedtea plugin.

Simon, are you sure that your patch is correct?

I think it should be sun-java6-plugin, not sun-java6-jre.

sun-java6-jre is just the Java runtime environment, without the browser plug-in.
sun-java6-plugin is the browser plugin, which depends on sun-java6-jre.

Can you please provide the patch against latest version in karmic?
Also note that this is a native package. So the version should not be of the form ubuntuX.
