Bug Description

Please change the default value of the dev.cdrom.lock sysctl from 1 to 0. This will prevent locking of CD-ROM trays, so that the eject button actually works.

I verified that userspace handles this just fine. The device is not formally unmounted, but this is just a cosmetical issue that is easy to fix. But hal/gnome-vfs/shell/etc. work just right.

After this is done, I will change the default /etc/sysctl.conf to include

  # enable CD-ROM tray locking
  # dev.cdrom.lock=0

so that it's a little bit easier for users to enable it again.

FWIW, with yesterday's fix to gnome-volume-manager, using the drive's eject button should now work fine on the majority of drives, so fixing this at the kernel level is not that important any more.
