Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-kde4

After installing 9.04 beta on top of a 8.10 the Quick Access plasma widget shows only a small black dot, but not a directory content. The widget was not available in the 8.10 installation. With 9.04 it is in the add widget list, but does not work.

Thanks in advance.

The package was missing. Thus I did

sudo install plasmoid-quickaccess.

Now I get:

apt-cache policy plasmoid-quickaccess
plasmoid-quickaccess:
  Installiert: 0.7.4-0ubuntu1
  Kandidat: 0.7.4-0ubuntu1
  Versions-Tabelle:
 *** 0.7.4-0ubuntu1 0
        500 http://at.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

But the behavior did not change. The plasmoid is in the list of available plasmoids, does appear when added and the settings are available, but it does not show any content - just a black dot.

I just upgraded another machine from 8.04 to 9 beta straight (instead of 8.04 to 8.10 to 9 beta), and then the plasmoid works fine. On a third machine that was upgraded from 8.10 to 9 beta the error is there.

Since I already lost the plasmoid while upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 with kde 4.1.2 (where it wasn't available at all), and it didn't show up after changing to 8.10 with kde 4.2. Now with 9 beta the plasmoid is there again, but does not work.

The error might be hidden in some plasmoids configuration files that came with 4.1.2 (but I could not find it). This error might be reproduced between the machines I'm using since I sync my files including the settings by rsync, but I did not sync the machine where the plasmoid is working yet.

Here's another thread on the same topic (suse - but sounds like the same problem):

plasmoid-quickaccess is uneeded anymore. It's just a dummy package that depends on the new package, plasma-wdiget-quickaccess. Anyway, what happens if you try to resize that dot?

It only appears invisible because the icon is super small. The widget is still there, you just have to resize it before it will work.

I've fixed this for the upcoming QuickAccess 0.8 release.

Ok, I've released QuickAccess 0.8, which fixes this issue. It hasn't been packaged officially for Ubuntu yet (Karmic isn't open for development yet) but you can get fixed packages from here: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/QuickAccess+(maintenance+fork)?content=101968
