Bug Description

You can't re-arrange your contact groups in empathy, the groups are always in alphabetical order. In pidgin you can drag a group around to move it above another group

Upstream bug is 2.5 years old and has no apparent progress. This bug combined with lack of OTR support make me think Empathy is an inappropriate default over Pidgin for Lucid.

I love Empathy, replaced by Pidgin since Lucid is out, but this regression rather Pidgin is really bad... I have about 10 groups and a lots of contacts, it's really not usefull like that... :-(

And I don't see any option to rename groups to sort them like I want.

Please guys, is it possible to have this option like in Pidgin please ?

Thanks a lots !

Empathy is a good IM-client and it is default client in Ubuntu. But
I'm forced to use the other IM-client. Problem is in using of many
protocols (2 ICQ, 2 jabber, gmail, facebook - hundreds of contacts) and Empathy
don't separate this protocols in contact list. It is very unconfortable.
Make, please, the function of separation of porocols in contact list
optional (for example: view - separate protocols).

And some protocols I use for communication and other - for work. And when
somebody new write to me, I see in contact list through wich protocol he found
me. And im Empathy I forced to look properties of the contact. It is also
uncomfortable.

There are not groups in 3.6 (by default?) anymore. I suggest closing this bug?

This is a basic feature and on a 'wishlist' for more than 4 years.
What's the point of groups if you can't edit, rename and order them? It should make accessing your contacts more easily, not more cumbersome.
