Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
All of the Ubuntu differences are either trivial (switched order of build-deps,
etc, or changes that should be made to our packages as well. I have testbuilt
the Debian package on an up-to-date Karmic pbuilder environment and it installs
perfectly
