Bug Description

Hi,

I was the former coder for iPodder linux which is no longer around. Apple made sure of that. I split from iPodedr after that which they call it Juice which is only windows and mac now.

CastPodder is the linux version which is supported. You are offering a program that is actually illegal to even use because of the name. Apple made sure of that as well.

Juice will never have a linux version or offer one.

Guillaume Desmottes sent a email to a Ubuntu userand he said a UVF would need to be submitted. Well here it is and it is a good reason why to drop iPodder, legal reasons, and use CastPodder.

The current release for CastPodder is now 4.0 which you can get at http://www.castpodder.net

Cheers,
Scott Grayban

I changed this request to reflect a critical priority for this package to be dropped for legal reasons and replaced by CastPodder which is the new name for the linux version of iPodder.

This a critical bug. For legal reason from Apple iPodder *must* be dropped and replaced by its successor CastPodder.

To add to this, I have tried CastPodder 4.0, and it seems to works fine in Ubuntu.

Colin, I thought you should know about this one, being archive guru and legal wizard.

I'm no legal wizard. I don't have a problem with dropping ipodder from the archive (at least dapper; we're sort of stuck with it in breezy). Unless we're in imminent danger of getting sued, though, I'd prefer that we get castpodder in first and then remove ipodder, so that users have an archive path.

Please subscribe ubuntu-archive to this bug once you're ready to have ipodder removed.

Colin,

Ubuntu is in danager of being used. Our original aggreement was to notify any and all upstream distributions that iPodder *MUST* be dropped. Apple claims we were decieving users that iPodder was a iPod product and forced us to stop all development with that name.

This is why CastPodder took its place for linux users and Juice supported window$ and mac.

This needs to be done in a timely manner to comply with our court orders.

Cheers,
Scott Grayban

CastPodder[1] should replace iPodder, since it is now the active project.

Debian has already removed iPodder from their package list.

http://www.castpodder.net no longer seems to be the homepage for Cast Podder. In fact it looks like the domain might be for sale.

Does anyone even know if Cast Podder is even still around?
