grub-installer /target exited with code 1

Bug Description

this bug is present on xubuntu livecd,

cmd:

# ESPRESSO_DEBUG=1 sudo espresso gtkui

everything works fine, no critical bugs to report untill it tries to install grub, a dialog pops up saying grub couldn't be installed.

the script affected seems to be:

grub-installer

i've seen it asks to debconf the bootdev:

db_get grub-installer/bootdev
bootdev=$RET

anyway bootdev is empty.

/dev/hda1 -- raiserfs -- dapper
/dev/hda2 -- swap
/dev/hda3 -- ext2 -- dapper-xubuntu (installed with espresso)

i have already grub on hda and the menu.lst is on /dev/hda1.

Should espresso find other GNU/Linux system on other partitions ?

I can edit the menu file and add my fresh install, but i guess this should be somehow done by espresso, i have no suggestions anyway.

grub-installer (1.14ubuntu4) dapper; urgency=low

  * Return early from is_removable if the argument isn't a mount point
    (closes: Malone #40100).
  * Support setting OVERRIDE_UNSUPPORTED_OS in the environment to force
    grub-installer to use its default MBR selection method despite there
    being unsupported operating systems on the disk (part of Malone #40131).

    to use its default MBR selection method (closes: Malone #40131).
