Bug Description

Suppose I am assessing bugs and want to target some to a new milestone. It's very hard to find out how to add a milestone - it cannot be done from the bug page, the +bugs page, or the project page.

It cannot be done from the view of an existing milestone (https://launchpad.net/products/bzr/+milestone/0.8) though this would also be an obvious place.

It would be at minimum nice to add this to the launchpad faq.

To add insult to injury, the link you do need to click (the release series) is in small print on the product page. :-)

Adding it to the FAQ wouldn't solve the problem of it being undiscoverable. Adding it to the bug page (if you're a maintainer) is a good idea, though.

I'd like to see a new idiom in Launchpad, which is that portlet titles become potentially clickable - so on any page which lists milestones, I can click the "Milestones" title to see all of them, and then add a new one. This would also help with the portlets that give a "teaser" of latest bugs, specifications, etc...

It's also worth mentioning that a project's milestones page offers no way to add milestones. Of all the pages on launchpad, this seems like the single most obvious place to add milestones, but it's not where the function is located.

https://launchpad.net/myproject/+milestones

... just says:

  Milestones
  « Back
There are no milestones associated with My Project
  « Back

It also includes a menu of things entirely unrelated to milestones.

This issue can be addressed during the work to unify series, milestones, and releases.

I have run out of time to fix this. I am landing some improvements in the next few days, but I do not think they will fix this bug.

Changes to the overall project page have made this a bit better, but
it's still not present in all the places you'd probably look, like the
milestone list.

I'm not sure what to do with this bug next. It is not possible to create a milestone without a series, so I cannot add the create_milestone link to the project page or the milestone page. The bugs team could add the create_milestone link to the bugtask widget like the create_release widget has.

My reasoning is this:

 * users will commonly realize they want to add a milestone when they're looking at some place where milestones are used: eg the milestones list, the bugs page, a particular bug
 * if you need to have a series to create a milestone, just ask for it when creating the milestone
 * in some cases people will need to also create a new series -- and this seems to lead into using one of the wizard-type popups described earlier this year

Overall I'd say this is a bit confusing, but it's also possible to learn how to use the current ui, therefore not a high priority. Maybe it can be considered in developing new UI patterns.

Copied from dup (the reason of a milestone<->series relationship not being know is noted): I had this forwarded to me off-list by one of Canonical's external contractors, and as it's something that leaves me confused as well, it's probably worth looking into. When viewing the milestones for a project, such as:

  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-font-family/+milestones

there is no way to "(+) Create milestone". To find the milestone creation option, it is necessary to navigate to an individual series:

  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-font-family/dalton-maag-expansion
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-font-family/phased-beta

Ideally the "(+) Create milestone" could be added to the +milestones listing page.
