Ubiquity deletes wanted packages

pcmcia-cs shouldn't be needed any more; this is a kernel or pcmciautils bug. What do 'cardctl ident', 'lspci', and 'lspci -n' say when you run them on the live CD? On the installed system, does running 'pcmcia-socket-startup' help?

On the installed system, the last update seems to have fixed the problem: I removed pcmcia-cs, and the card was recognised on startup.

Same deal here. Xubuntu 6.06 FLIGHT7 fails to install pcmcia-cs even when present and working under the LiveCD. pcmciautils, however, IS installed. Since pcmcia-cs is NOT installed, cardctl and lspci aren't either, so no go on output from them as suggested above. After a floppy nightmare, I installed pcmcia-cs, but then got the error "Linux >= 2.6.13-rc1 requires pcmciautils instead of pcmcia-cs" as noted above.

But bottom line, the NIC doesn't work, and without that, the distro is useless. Coupled with Bug #40825, Xubuntu is 0 for 2 so far and not looking good this close to release.

Could you try booting with the pci=assign-busses kernel parameter and see if that sorts it out?

Oops, sorry about the dup. I refreshed and re-posted this page by accident.

Anyway, as asked I tried the Xubuntu 6.06 FLIGHT7 LiveCD after adding "pci=assign-busses" to the boot line (just prior to the trailing --). It worked! Sort-of.

As with Ubuntu and Kubuntu, my Xircom pcmcia NIC does not work until I eject and reinsert it, but at least it works now.

The Xubuntu 6.06 Live CD worked great on a Toshiba Satellite 2805 and Linksys Network PC Card Model No. WPC11 ver.3. After running the installer and rebooting, the card was no longer available. After doing a google search on the possible problem, I plugged into ethernet (which worked fine), added the pcmcia-cs package, and the card worked after rebooting.
