Bug Description

I'm trying to boot the Dapper beta 2 cd [1] and it is failing at the yaboot prompt. It can't seem to find the cd: device. I haven't yet worked out how to fix this.

Was trying to get to the bug report and accidentally re-added it to yaboot-installer. Apologies.

Ian Jackson and I have prepared three CD images that we'd like you to test, in an attempt to narrow down what's going on with this bug. If you would be so kind, could you please download, burn, and boot each of these in turn and report the results to this bug? Each of them is based on an install CD image, but is stripped down to make it quicker to download and to make it impossible for the image to actually install anything. A successful result will get part-way into the installer and then fail trying to find the Release file; a failing result will probably fail as this bug report describes, or in some other way.

This is just a stripped-down version of yesterday's daily build.

As above, but with yaboot rebuilt on our porting system "davis".

As above, but with yaboot rebuilt on davis using gcc-3.3.

Thanks in advance!

I tried all three and they all yielded the same result as before. The actual output is:

cd:0,/install/boot.msg: Unable to open file, Invalid device
Welcome to yaboot version 1.3.13
Enter "help" to get some basic usage information
boot:
Please wait, loading kernel...
cd:0,/install/powerpc/vmlinux: Unable to open file, Invalid device
boot:

(this is transcribed off paper so may not be 100% byte accurate)

I've tried entering other boot strings with other device names (like cdrom, disk, disk0, ide, ide0), but I'm not very familiar with this hardware so this is really just guessing.

The redhat AS4.3 install cd works fine (as of course does the AIX one).

Not sure when this was fixed, but current ISOs boot fine on pSeries machines.
