Thank you for reporting this issue. I am able to reproduce this issue. I use Abiword on a daily basis in Lucid Lynx.

This appears to be a direct result of updates installed on 2010-02-18 as of 02:21 pm GMT.

When run from the terminal, an error is produced: "abiword: error while loading shared libraries: libgoffice-0.8.so.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

I am attaching the /var/log/apt logs from today as well as ~/.xsession-errors log showing the above error. Please note that when Abiword is started from the menu, it fails silently with the error appearing in the .xsession-errors log. When started from the terminal, the error does not appear in the log file.

This bug was fixed in the package abiword - 2.8.1-2ubuntu2

---------------
abiword (2.8.1-2ubuntu2) lucid; urgency=low

  * Rebuild against latest goffice. lp: #523763
  * debian/control: bump liblink-grammar4-dev build-dep to (>= 4.6.5-1ubuntu1)
    to force rebuilding against the fixed version, fixes FTBFS.
