Button text mess-up in users and groups window

Thanks that you redirected the bug report. I have not enough knowledge
of the whereabouts of Ubuntu in what package this issue concerns, I just
saw a weird phenomenon on my desktop and reported it. There was no
opportunity to trace the package as supposed in your comment, though I
did give it a try.

Thanks for your report. Could you check that this bug happens with different themes ? You can change them by going to System->Administration->Appearance. Also, could you try with a smaller font and see whether this fixes the problem ?

Have you seen similar bugs in other programs too?

Because the new designed Users and Groups window is first introduced in Lucid, the issue is new with 10.4. So I only can check the themes dust and clearlooks. The result is however the same. The length of the translated text in those buttons is still longer than the original English version. With a smaller font (for me not usable) the button text gets better.
I never met such issue before or elsewhere, because normally the button size scales up with the used font size.

What is necessary to make this bug no longer "incomplete"?

Nothing. Often times bug triagers just don't get around to changing the status for a while. Just so you know, you can change the status of the bug yourself after you give the requested information to help prevent this.

Yes, I can confirm I'm able to reproduce the bug, using big fonts or long labels (depending on language). I' have to investigate what we're doing wrong in the dialog which prevents the button from growing as much as needed.

I've found where the problem comes from, and a fix will be released with the gnome-system-tools 2.30.1, which could enter Lucid as a stable release update at some point.

jgv: Could you try that this works for you by applying the attached patch on your system? Just save the file and run:
sudo patch /usr/share/gnome-system-tools/ui/users.ui < PATH_TO_THE_FILE
