unplug USB audio device from the computer, or put this line in /etc/modporbe.d/blacklist.conf

blacklist snd-usb-audio

This works for me!

OK. I konw that. I hope bugfix will be released ASAP. But IMHO, you couldn't use USB microphone and watching TV at the same time. As we know 10.04 coming soon, and i suppose this problem will be solved.

It crashes at that point with my existing ~/.tvtime/ config from Karmic, or after a wipe of the config.

same here with Logitech QuickCam Zoom. Very annoying because every time I unplug my camera, the audio source selektion gets lost and I have to reconfigure it correctly on every reconnect.

@Markward
Open https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/tvtime/1.0.2-5ubuntu1 und look for "Builds" on the right hand side. There you'll find links to the 32- and 64-bit versions of the tvtime_1.0.2-5ubuntu1 package.

it doesn't crash for the usb sound card, but on my install it doesn find any channel, I can't see nothing on the tv.
But as I have problem with lirc as well: lircd and irrecord can't receive anything from the IR receiver, I suppose that the problem is in Saa7134 driver.
If the problem is the driver, I definitely assume that Open Source Community is not interested in developping a good driver for those cards, the last working version was on Intrepid 8.10, after that: crappy audio on Jaunty and Karmic and now nothing at all on Lucid. Probably is time to change my tv card.

ok, now my tv card is working. The problem was that I installed Lucid from Alpha 3 and tv card was working, after Beta 1 or 2 the card stoppped working. Now I made a fresh install from Live CD and everything is working.
But I needed to install TVTIME from Woopie's package.
Thanks a lot.

Logitech Webcam screwed it up. Disconnected it and tvtime works.

Will try the Whoopie PPA release. Thanks!

This problem persists in tvtime 1.0.2-6.1ubuntu1 from Maverick repository using latest and updated Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat RC.

It can be solved by installing the patched (and also older) tvtime 1.0.2-5ubuntu2.1 as described here (and as Whoopie said above):
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9282261&postcount=12

bud it should be fixed upstream or at least in the repository

Hopefully this will make some progress.

Sorry for being such a noob, but does this mean that I'll be able to:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
and I'll get a fix when uploaded to server I'm getting updates from, or do I need to fix it manually somehow? If I need to apply it manually, please give me instructions how to do it.
I also hope that the patch will be available not only for 11.10 but also 12.04 since it's LTS.

What are the chances for it being available on 11.10? I hope we'll not need to wait for 6months for this to work.
