Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunar

Running an up-to-date lucid installation, I experience thunar displaying English menu and dialog texts despite having my locale / language environment explicitely set to de_DE@utf8 (German chosen during gdm login). Installed all language-pack-*-de packages I managed to find, no result. Looking at locale, things seem as expected:

kr@n428:~$ locale
LANG=de_DE.utf8
LC_CTYPE="de_DE.utf8"
LC_NUMERIC="de_DE.utf8"
LC_TIME="de_DE.utf8"
LC_COLLATE="de_DE.utf8"
LC_MONETARY="de_DE.utf8"
LC_MESSAGES="de_DE.utf8"
LC_PAPER="de_DE.utf8"
LC_NAME="de_DE.utf8"
LC_ADDRESS="de_DE.utf8"
LC_TELEPHONE="de_DE.utf8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="de_DE.utf8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="de_DE.utf8"

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report. There is a debian bug about a similar issue (http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=570122), could you see if it match the symptoms you experienced?

Hi there;

debian#570122 indeed seems to be the cause here too, with the exception that in the first thunar window opened, only the top-level (window) menus are German. As far as the context menus are concerned, locales are ignored in the first window instance as well. And, the "first instance" of course only works while invoking thunar using commandline or in example from Xubuntus "places" menu. While opening "Home" using the desktop icon, locales are ignored immediately - desktop icons are "first thunar instance" then? Strange, on desktop icons however, context menus do use the "right" locale...

It's probably a libxfce4util bug fixed by http://git.xfce.org/xfce/libxfce4util/commit/?h=xfce-4.6&id=a70bd52c7dfece4c4d26158d7193a9c55366e980 (which will be in xfce 4.6.2).

If you're still reading this bug report and having this issue, what's the content of $HOME/.config/user-dirs.locale?
I guess it contains "C", or "en_US"... (it looks like this upstream bug: https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4746)
