Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately there is not enough information in the bug report to fix the problem.

I tried to find any preset with your mentioned --ar option, but I can not find it. Could you please tell us if you created or edited presets? It would help to provide the presets.xml file located in ~/.winff/ Did you specify any of the additional option fields? Which preset did you use? I.e. what did you do EXACTLY when the problem appeared.

I think that you can solve the problem for your own situation now you by editing the preset (menu "edit" -> "Presets") you are trying to use and remove one of the hyphens (there should only be one hyphen in front of "ar").

Changed in winff (Ubuntu):
status: New → Incomplete

I would not remove the complete "--ar", but just make sure that it says "-ar" (so with only one "-").

I will set this bug to invalid as it seems that this is a user mistake.

thanks for your email.
as you recommend i don't remove the -ar option
but i still get the error message. and as you
see in the attachment there's no --ar.
the preset i use you'll find as an attachment
also the converting process with the error message.
don't know what to do.
it's the same on my girlfriends computer.
so it can't be that i took some wrong parameters inside.
usually everything should be without any problems.
we just install the new ubuntu 10.04 with the "Medibuntu - Ubuntu
10.04... as software source.

thanks

i think i got it now.
find a way to manage my mp3 files.
guess you are right and it's really a user mistake.

I don't think is a user mistake, or a invalid bug report. I reproduce it:
1) Open a .m4a audio file.
2) Concert to: Audio. Device preset: MP3
3) Bitrate: 64. Sample Rate: 22000. Audio channels: 1
I believe a GUI should made things more easy and a friendly way to avoid users errors, with for example comboboxes and presets options...

thanks for your advice!
you are right i reproduce it and get the same result.
the only thing you can do is do go to the presets
and change the settings over there. it work.
just create a new preset with your settings and
run it.
set your comment to the bug but later i see it's done
already. do we need to reactivate it?

Please provide me with the contents of your ~/.winff/presets.xml file and your /usr/share/winff/presets*.xml files.

I can not find a --ar in any of the past preset files so I can not imagine that this is really a winff bug.

Hmm, I finally understand that you are using the "Additional Options" section to change the sample rate. I am able to reproduce the problem. I updated a bug at upstream bug tracker: http://code.google.com/p/winff/issues/detail?id=63

I fixed this issue upstream. I hope to provide a patch today for Ubuntu.

The problem is an uninitialized variable in the function that replaces information in the preset string with information from the additional options section which is only problematic for the last parameter in the preset.
