Bug Description

Binary package hint: wine-dev

If I try to install it I get this error message:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine-dev: Depends: wine1.2-dev but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

winde1.2-dev is already installed and running a "apt-get update" won't help.

I would expect to be able to install it as any other normal package.

Yes, this is my mistake. As a workaround you can remove the wine-dev package and just install wine1.2-dev (wine-dev has no content)

This bug was fixed in the package wine1.2 - 1.1.42-0ubuntu5

---------------
wine1.2 (1.1.42-0ubuntu5) maverick; urgency=low

  * debian/control: adjust conflicts and have wine require a newer wine1.2
    - should prevent upgrade failures (LP: #571999)
    - should make wine-dev installable (LP: #578127)
  * et translation for menu items (LP: #386125)

hi, is it ok to backport this to lucid? packages that build-dep on wine-dev are obviously failing to build (lmms i'm thinking of)

Scott Ritchie (scottritchie) wrote :

Those packages will need a rebuild anyway, it would probably be better to update/SRU them and make them build-depend on wine1.2-dev.

The reason is that in the future wine-dev will be the 1.3/1.4 branch which may break build compatibility with 1.2 (in the same way that 1.2 did with 1.0, which is why we now have wine1.0 and wine1.0-dev in lucid).

Regardless, the change will work its way into Lucid when Wine 1.2 is, which will be SRUed once it releases.
